First Day of Preschool!

I'm so proud of my big girl!  Breanna's first day of preschool went great!  She has been looking forward to going all summer.  She is always the one asking, "Where are we going today?" or "Who is coming over today?", so I knew she would be excited about going to preschool.  Here I thought I could handle my emotions of leaving our firstborn with people other than friends or family.  After all, she will only be going three days a week for a few hours.  But nope, I was crying in the car leaving the parking lot!  Good thing I had my buddy Ian to cheer me up and hold my hand.  I am so looking forward to watching Bre grow this year.  And it will be fun to have some alone time with Ian.

Summer Sundress

I always look forward to sewing sundresses for Bre.  No zippers, no buttons, just comfy and cool.  Here's what I came up with this year.

Bre has certain standards for these dresses.
Can she twirl in it?  Check.

Can she play in it? Check.

Does it come with a matching hair accessory? Check.

And I'm going to keep making her dresses until she's embarrassed that her mom sews her clothes...ok I'll probably be sewing them then too.

The fabrics used were from Tina Givens line of Lilliput Fields.

Ian's Industrial Letters

This is a quick and easy project that we added to Ian's room.  I wanted letters that resembled metal and had an industrial look to them.

I started with some letters from Michaels and used some decorative nails from JoAnn's.

The nails were added at the corners and then I sprayed them with a white primer so the spray paint would stick well.

I chose a bright orange in high gloss to give the metal look.

Ian's room is slowly coming along, one project at a time!

Lemonade Stand

Breanna's good friend (and neighbor) wanted to set up a lemonade stand this weekend.  We made some homemade lemonade, my neighbor made chocolate cookies & the girls made the sign.  They were so cute helping our many customers!  The stand was a great success and the girls are going to give the money to our VBS missionaries for audio Bibles.

So silly these two!  Glad they are such good friends, like their Mommies!

Little bro got to help (eat cookies and drink lemonade)

We always have plenty of lemons thanks to Craig's parents!  Here's a yummy recipe:

Fresh Squeezed Lemonade

1 cup fresh lemon juice
1 1/4 cup sugar
5 2/3 cup water

Mix sugar with 2/3 cup water in sauce pan, bring to boil until clear.
Allow to cool completely.  Add lemon juice and remaining 5 cups water.  Enjoy!

Summer Fun

We have embraced the heat in Bako.  The kids could spend all day outside, just having a blast with the little kiddy pool and water hose.  My favorite part is all the giggles & squeals!

Bre likes to have races back and forth across the yard.  She is quite speedy.
I see a cross-country runner in our future.

Silly dancing

Lots of swinging.
Bre always shouts "Best day EVER!" as she is swinging (from Tangled, of course).

And this is what entertains Ian for HOURS!
Such a silly little guy!

Ian's quilt and big boy room

YEA!  It's finally done!  Actually, the quilt was done about a month ago, but I'm always slow to blog about things.  The inspiration of this quilt came from Jenny, as do many projects.  I was thinking that I wanted to make a strip quilt with different widths, but could figure out how to make it work right.  Once I decided on the zig zag design, it came to together rather smoothly.

The front

The back

The fabrics speak to the nerd in me...I especially love the circuit boards!

The fabrics used were:
Robot Factory by Kaufman
Mechanical Genius by Mo Bedell
Robots by David Walker
Robotics by Moda
Full Moon by Amy Butler

Ian will have to grow into it a bit!

For his big boy room, we painted a nice grey color on the walls.
Using my silhouette machine, I cut out a wall decal from vinyl.
There's still much more decorating to come...

My favorite part is that Ian really appreciates his quilt and was interested in watching it come together.  I hope he treasures it forever.

And just to reminisce, here is a before picture of his nursery.
ahhh....where did time go?

Breanna-isms #1

Bre is really into drawing, painting, & coloring.  I love watching her creativity develop.  Today she started drawing a picture, so I asked her what she was drawing....

Drawing #1:

Bre: "I am drawing you and Daddy at your wedding...I'm in your tummy"
Me: "No, Breanna, you were not in my tummy at our wedding.  That happened much later"
Bre: "I know"

Drawing #2:

Me: "Now what are you drawing?"
Bre: "The car where I started being in your tummy.  You were going home in it after your wedding. It took a long long time to get where you were going."

This is where I bust up laughing!  I did say it happened much later.  This shall be a conversation for another time...
